Somatic Healing for Trauma: Gentle Ways to Release What Your Body Is Holding

Somatic Healing for Trauma: Gentle Ways to Release What Your Body Is Holding
I see you.
I hear the part of you that feels tired of talking about the pain but still feels it in your shoulders, your chest, your belly.
You’ve done the counselling. You understand what happened. Yet somehow your body still reacts — tight throat when someone raises their voice, sudden exhaustion for no reason, or that heavy feeling that never quite leaves.
That’s not weakness. That’s your body keeping the score.
In my work as a holistic therapist, Registered Social Worker, and healer here at Mind, Body & Soul, I’ve walked beside many people who discovered that true healing doesn’t only happen in the mind. It also happens through the body — and sometimes through the energy that flows within and around it. This is where somatic healing becomes such a beautiful, gentle gift.

What Is Somatic Healing?
Somatic simply means “of the body.” Somatic healing recognises that trauma, stress, and overwhelming experiences don’t just live in our thoughts — they get stored in our nervous system and tissues.
Your body remembers what your mind sometimes tries to push away.
A racing heart, shallow breathing, frozen shoulders, or that urge to disappear — these are intelligent survival responses. They once kept you safe. Now, with the right support, they can finally complete their cycle and let go.

How Energy Healing Weaves In
As an energy healer, I also work with the subtle energies that can become blocked or heavy after trauma. When we gently unblock and move this energy — through intention, presence, and sometimes sound or light touch — the body often feels safer to release what it has been holding.
It’s like giving your whole system permission to exhale. The mind, body, and soul begin to work together instead of against each other. Many clients describe it as finally feeling lighter, clearer, or more “at home” in themselves. For me, blending somatic awareness with energy healing feels like honouring the full human experience — the seen and the unseen.

How Trauma Shows Up in the Body (Signs You Might Recognise)
Here are some of the ways I often see the body holding on:
  • Tension or pain in the neck, shoulders, jaw, or hips that no massage seems to fix
  • Feeling “stuck” or numb even when life is going okay
  • Sudden waves of anxiety or anger that feel bigger than the current moment
  • Exhaustion that sleep doesn’t touch
  • Difficulty feeling safe in your own body or trusting touch
  • Digestive issues, headaches, or immune challenges that seem connected to stress
If any of these feel familiar, please know you are not broken. Your body is simply asking to be heard.

My Own Gentle Path with Somatic and Energy Work
There was a time when I carried things I didn’t have words for. My mind could explain them, but my body — and my energy — still held the weight.
Learning to listen to my body through breath, gentle movement, and working with energy changed everything for me. It felt like coming home to myself.
That same soft return is what I now offer others. I feel so privileged to guide people back to their own inner wisdom, where the soul already knows how to heal once the blocks are gently moved.

What Somatic Healing Can Look Like in a Session
Every person is different, so we always go at your pace. Some of the gentle ways we work together include:
  • Noticing sensations in the body with curiosity instead of fear
  • Simple breathwork and grounding practices that calm the nervous system
  • Somatic tracking — learning to follow the body’s natural impulses to release (trembling, sighing, warmth)
  • Combining energy healing and sound therapy to create safety and flow
  • Bringing in spiritual connection — whatever that means for you — so you feel supported by something greater
Nothing is ever forced. If something feels too much, we pause and honour that. Healing can be soft. It can feel like coming home.

From Pain to Power — Real Shifts I’ve Witnessed
I’ve seen people who once felt trapped in their trauma begin to feel lightness in their chest again.
Shoulders drop. Breath deepens. Sleep returns. They start trusting their body instead of fighting it.
One client told me after a few months, “I didn’t know my body could feel safe.” That sentence still touches my heart.
These shifts don’t happen overnight, but they do happen when we meet ourselves with compassion instead of criticism.
